He also was bilingual which was critical for our safety hiking. We were honestly in over our heads with the challenging nature of the hike but he guided us through. He was resourceful and helpful and single handedly got us safely up to the summit and back. Old Town Outfitters was incredible in leading our Acatenango Overnight Hike.įirstly, our guide Venicio was THE BEST. Thank you Rudy and team for giving us this experience. This was a wonderful way to spent a morning/afternoon in Antigua. Throughout the ride we were surrounded by coffee fincas. Both were legit small businesses in the area an a step above other similar tours. We stopped at the Valhalla macadamia nut farm, did their quick tour and bought their products. We stopped at a small chocolate factory and went on their tour, bought product. The ride was described at moderate intensity which was accurate: mostly it was easy with a couple of those STEEP Guatemalan climbs (we are very fit and had to walk some.) The last few kilometers are along a busy road. He also spoke with a charm and enthusiasm that was infectious.įor the tour you are riding on the streets of these villages that are very normal for Guatemala, but are not on the beaten path for tourists to Antigua. ![]() He knew his information and was comfortable with the bike route. We can’t say enough about Rudy as a guide. In 4.5 hours we REALLY got a feel for the towns of this valley and how and why Antigua developed. ![]() He and another got us set up on excellent mountain bikes that worked well during the day.Īs a family we’ve done bike tours in Florence, Athens and Paris. This was fantastic! The business was well organized and ready for us so we checked in and met our AWESOME guide Rudy.
